Jennifer's 30th B-Day

Today was Jennifer's 30th B-day, she didn't have too much of an exciting day. Kieran went for a checkup and was 10 pounds 6 oz., doctor was impressed by how much he had grown.

We also went to the county park at the end of the street (about a mile away), here is a picture of Jen crossing a bridge over one of the 3 small lakes, its a nice little park, even nicer since its so close

1 Month Old

Kieran is now 1 month old and is really starting to "wake up". He trys to look around alot and enjoys being walked around. He is still pretty fussy when he is left alone for any period of time if he is awake.

Here are a few more pics of little Kieran. He is in a predictable habit of trying to sleep all day so he can keep his folks up all night. He went to his first 2 parties last weekend, both to a pre-harvest party with our winery and our counterparts in Sonoma, then after that, he made an appearance at a block party on our street, he was a hit at both, and was on is best behavior. Dad is going to be busy soon, the first Pinot Noir grapes are coming in this week, from now until the end of crush should be an event. Jen is doing the real work though, living on 30 minute naps between feedings etc.

The tough life

so here is how little Kieran spends his days, generally either passed out in his mom's arms or just lounging in his hammock
when he gets bored, he will fuss a little to let us know he wants to be walked around, and then just stare and look around at lights etc., he really has it tough!

First Bath

Here are a few new pics from Kieran's first bath, he is now 2 weeks old. He is almost back to his birthweight of 9 pounds 8 oz. and is now 21 inches long. He is good at keeping us up at night (specifically, Jennifer).

He is starting to go out now and is getting a louder cry as well

Besides that, not too much new for us. Jen notified Yahoo! that she was resigning once her maternity leave is up, she will miss work but is happy that she will be able to take care of Kieran for a few years

My work is going well, starting to get ready for harvest which will be starting in a few weeks

1 week old

Here is a pic of Kieran at 1 week old, what a guy!

If you failed to catch the common theme between all his pics, let me key you in. He is either asleep, eating, lounging in his swing, or grimicing while pooping, at which point I have the pleassure of wiping his butt. To say I am jealous is a understatement.

He is getting a little picky as well, notice his diaper is of the elmo variety, he refuses to wear anything else. He loves his elmo diapers, although this puts us at an economic disadvantage. Because you can't buy just elmo diapers, we have resorted to tossing all the mickey mouse, winnie the pooh and dora the explorer diapers. Also notice his diaper is about 8 sizes too big, thats what you get when you buy the 385 econopac at costco, these need to last him until he is 6.

Also, I now have the added pressure of keeping Scotty B. entertained on this site as well. He is doing well in Iraq, has bookmarked this site, and expects entertainment. I personally think he needs to spend more time keepng an eye on his sandals to keep birds from stealing them

OK, I figured out how this whole blog thing works (sort of), and frankly, I am rather proud of myself. Here is a more recent pic of the guy who inspired the site, born a week ago today (07/29).

I will try and keep it somewhat interesting for non-family members as well, not that anyone else will look at the site.

Skaalens in Sonoma

OK, here it goes, I am in the process of creating the least viewed blog on the web, with the goal being to reduce the amount of time needed to upload pics and sending them to family etc. of Kieran. We will bore you with updates of him, as well as other happenings up here in Sonoma. We will try and update it once a week with a new shot of something of interest (to us at least). I m not allowing posts, mainly to keep you smartasses from reaching my family (you know who you are..rubio, kahn, beggs, conroy, bones etc. etc.).......

Well, for now I am going to sign off and see if this works. didn't Indro tell us that if we created a blog, we would be assured any job we wanted? (and I am doing this on a mac no less)

Kieran was 9 pounds 8 ounces and was 20 inches long, with very dark hair. He lost almost a pound in the hospital but has gained it almost all back since getting home.
